Smart buildings push connectivity into every riser and ceiling void: access control, cameras, sensors, Wi-Fi and tenant services all arrive over the same infrastructure. Fiber's capacity and reach let one backbone replace parallel copper systems — saving riser space, easing power distribution and simplifying long-term management. In-building optical networks assembled from riser cables, floor distribution boxes, compact splitters and wall outlets deliver every service over one passive plant, with ONTs handing off Ethernet and Wi-Fi at each floor or tenancy. Bend-insensitive fiber and slimline enclosures suit the tight pathways of occupied buildings, and the passive backbone leaves headroom for services the building has not adopted yet.
