PLC Splitters

PLC splitters divide one optical input across up to 64 outputs with uniform loss, using a planar lightwave circuit etched into a glass chip. They are the passive heart of every PON: a single OLT port serves dozens of subscribers through a component that needs no power, cooling or maintenance in the field.

The planar chip guides light through a cascade of branching waveguides, giving consistent port-to-port uniformity across the full 1260–1650 nm transmission window and stable performance over outdoor temperature extremes. Packaging determines where the splitter fits: bare-fiber and steel-tube types splice into closures and boxes, ABS cassette and LGX modules slot into distribution boxes and frames, and rack-mount trays serve central offices. Devices are designed to align with ITU-T G.671 and the IEC 61753 performance categories.

Selection guide

How to Choose

Derive the split ratio from the optical link budget — a 1:32 split typically consumes about 17.5 dB, so higher ratios demand shorter reach or higher-class optics. Choose the package to match the enclosure it will live in, prefer SC/APC-connectorised modules where technicians will patch in the field, and reserve spliced bare-fiber types for the lowest-loss, set-and-forget points in the network.

Products in PLC Splitters

Select up to three products to compare their typical specifications side by side.

PLC Splitter 1×8

ModelPSK-PLC-108Available

Planar lightwave circuit splitter dividing one optical input evenly across eight outputs, wavelength-flat over the full 1260–1650 nm PON band. Supplied bare, in ABS module, LGX cassette or rack-mount formats to suit any point in the ODN.

PLC Splitter 1×16

ModelPSK-PLC-116Available

Planar lightwave circuit splitter serving sixteen subscriber drops from a single PON feeder, wavelength-flat across 1260–1650 nm. Higher split density concentrates the ODN into fewer cabinets, in bare, ABS, LGX and rack formats.
