Fiber patch cords are factory-terminated jumpers that make the final connection between distribution panels and active equipment. Because every link crosses at least two of them, their connector quality directly sets the insertion-loss and return-loss budget of the whole channel.

Match connector type and polish exactly to the ports at both ends — mating APC to UPC damages end-faces and ruins the loss budget. Order lengths that avoid large slack coils, prefer uniboot or short-boot LC designs where panel density is high, and specify a tighter loss grade only on links whose optical budget genuinely needs it.
