Small-form-factor LC connector with a 1.25 mm zirconia ferrule for high-density single-mode termination. Epoxy-and-polish construction for pigtails, patch cords and factory assemblies, at half the panel footprint of SC. Optical connectors are precision mechanical interfaces that align two fiber cores — each around nine microns wide — accurately enough for light to cross the joint with minimal loss. Ferrule quality, end-face geometry and adapter alignment decide how much of the optical budget every mating consumes.
