Palm-sized subscriber terminal that closes the PON: a dual-mode xPON optical port that auto-detects GPON or EPON head ends, and one gigabit Ethernet port toward the home router. Plug-and-play OMCI/OAM provisioning makes mass rollouts a scan-and-connect operation. Communication equipment is the active edge of the optical network — the OLTs, ONUs/ONTs, media converters and transceivers that turn light back into services. Sitting at both ends of the passive plant, it defines the speeds, service mix and management model the network can offer.
